The Wardrobe Door Opens: Netflix’s Narnia Adventure Begins Filming This August

It seems the year 2024 is only for converting children’s novels into films. Following yesterday’s news of the film adaptation of Gabby’s Dollhouse, today comes filming updates on The Chronicles of Narnia.

The latest news for Netflix’s Narnia reveals the details for the production of The Chronicles of Narnia remake, which is being helmed by Greta Gerwig.

Today, What’s on Netflix made a confirmation that the filming of Netflix’s Narnia will commence in August 2024 in the UK. They did not disclose where the filming would take place in the UK.

It was reported in the news that the cast and crew of the film is packed untill March 2025, which means that the filming will not end before seven months.

If we talk about the release date, then the film will not be released before the end of 2025, or it may get delayed even further.

In October 2018, the streaming channel confirmed that the film had shaken hands with The C.S. Lewis Company. Since then, beyond one architect’s announcement, things have been relatively quiet about what the future holds.

Last year, Gerwig confirmed the Netflix projects and spoke numerous times about the upcoming challenges of adapting such iconic books.

While having a conversation with BBC Radio 4 in the UK Gerwig stated, “I’m slightly in the place of terror because I really do have such reverence for Narnia.”

“I loved Narnia so much as a child. As an adult, I see Lewis as a thinker and a writer. I’m intimidated by doing this. It’s something that feels like a worthy thing to be intimidated by.”

“I also have to say, as a non-British person, I feel a particular sense of wanting to do it correctly because, you know, it’s like when Americans do Shakespeare, there’s a slight feeling of reverence and as if maybe we should, you know, treat it with extra care. It is not our countrymen.”

Narnia movie will be led by Barbie director Greta Gerwig and Matthew Aldrich and Greta Gerwig will write the screenplay from C.S. Lewis’s novel.

Mark Gordon, Douglas Gresham, Amy Pascal, and Vincent Sieber are serving as the producers.
