Megan Markle Writes Letter to King Charles on Royal Family’s Unconscious Bias

Meghan Markle the Duchess of Sussex shared her concerns about unconscious bias in the royal family in a letter. The letter was sent after Prince Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

The Meghan letter was sent in response to a letter she received from King Charles expressing his sadness over hostility in the family and Meghan reportedly told Charles that she have no intention to accuse the royal family member of racism and just wanted to discuss unconscious bias.

According to People reports, when Prince William was asked about the racist comments he replied: “We are very much not a racist family.” Harry also raised the question, “Did Meghan ever mention ‘they’re racists’?”

Harry added “The difference between racism and unconscious bias… the two things are different. Once it’s been acknowledged or pointed out to you as an individual, otherwise an institution, that you have unconscious bias, you, therefore, have an opportunity to learn and grow from that… otherwise, unconscious bias then moves into the category of racism,”

According to the Times of India, British media reported that this exchange of letters is the reason behind the duchess’s decision to not attend King Charles’ coronation.
