The Spirit of Halloween is a 2026 Hallmark Halloween romance with a spooky twist on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. It was directed by Jeff Beesley and written by Nicole Baxter. Meghan Ory plays Everly Stone, and Kevin McGarry plays Beau Madison. Derek McGrath, Lachlan Quarmby and Valentina Capetola are also in the cast.
The story is about a bridal designer who hates Halloween, but the cameras rolled in the real city of Ottawa, Ontario, with one nearby town also reported. If you like cozy seasonal Hallmark stories with a bit of fantasy, you can find many more in our Canada collection.
Everly Stone is a successful bridal designer who has stayed away from Halloween for years. A painful memory from a fire-station party in her town is the reason. Then her late mentor shows up with a warning, and three spirits take her through one long night. They show her what she has lost, who she is pushing away, and what she could miss. Beau, her old friend, is part of that story too. Like Scrooge in the Dickens tale, Everly slowly learns to open her heart again.
The Spirit of Halloween premiered on Hallmark Channel on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 8/7c. It is the last new premiere in Hallmark’s Fall Into Love lineup.
The movie comes from Hallmark Media. It airs on Hallmark Channel and started streaming on Hallmark+ the next day, October 11, 2026, as listed by Girls Gone Hallmark.

The movie was shot in Ottawa under the working title A Halloween Carol. Entertainment Now reported that filming began on November 24 in Ottawa, and Moviedelic says the shoot lasted about three weeks and wrapped in the second week of December 2025. Hallmark has not shared official dates, so please treat these as reports. It was a funny time to film a Halloween story, since the crew was making a fall look while real winter was on its way. We could not confirm who handled the cinematography, so we will add it as soon as it is credited.
📍Ottawa, Ontario
Ottawa was the main base for the movie. Moviedelic says most of the scenes were shot here. The capital has leafy streets, old stone buildings and calm neighborhoods, so it can look like the small American town in the story. Hallmark has filmed in the Ottawa area before, and the area is known for its Christmas movies, as the CBC has noted. Hallmark has not named the exact streets, houses or shops used, so we cannot point to a single address yet. Another Hallmark movie shot in Ontario is Pumpkin Regatta Romance, which used Hamilton and Dundas if you want to compare.
📍Carleton Place, Ontario
Carleton Place is a small town in Lanark County, west of Ottawa, with an old downtown that suits a cozy holiday story. Moviedelic says several scenes were filmed here. We found only that one report, so please treat it as unconfirmed. We also do not know which scenes were shot there, so it is best not to assume that any one building appeared in the film.
The Spirit of Halloween Behind the Scenes
Here are two behind-the-scenes Instagram posts from the production: first post and second post. We could not open Instagram to check who shared them, so please open them to see the set photos.
Meghan Ory shared a funny sneak peek on Instagram on October 1, 2026. The text on the video said, “Spoiler. I fall down a lot in this amazing movie!” Her caption read, “Don’t miss #thespiritofhalloween October 10 on @hallmarkchannel,” and Hallmark Channel replied that it is “going to be scary good!” as reported by Entertainment Now.
Those falls were not easy to shoot. In an interview with Girls Gone Hallmark, Ory said the physical comedy was so fun that she wanted to do more of it. One take, where she landed on a candle and hit the floor, was cut for being “a little bit much,” but it left a big bruise on her thigh. She also played Everly twice because of a time shift, so she had a lot of lines to learn.
Ory praised the director, Jeff Beesley, for building a great group of actors. She said it was her first time working with Kevin McGarry and that he brought a lot of charm to Beau. She also said the set decorations made the set feel as joyful as a Christmas movie, and that watching her own kids enjoy Halloween changed how she sees the holiday, according to Fantasy Land News.
We will add more cast and crew Instagram posts and set photos here as soon as they are shared.
