The movie was filmed in Greece and Bulgaria. According to Greek Reporter, work started around October 21, 2024, near the city of Drama. Greek City Times says filming wrapped on December 30, 2024.
Netflix and Wikipedia also list Iceland as a filming country. But no exact Iceland spot has been named. The Hollywood Reporter said the team picked a volcano in Santorini instead of one in Iceland. So Iceland’s role is still unclear.
📍 Volakas, Drama (Northern Greece)
The big charity gala was filmed at a marble quarry in Volakas, a village near Drama. Variety’s review describes the party as taking place at this quarry. Netflix calls the place a mine.
Gavras told Netflix his team brought about 200 extras in gala dresses to the site. Greek Reporter said the crew built special platforms in one of the quarries. Filming there was planned to run until November 2, 2024.
Filming also reached the road that leads up to the Falakro ski resort. Greek Reporter said more than 150 crew members were already in the area. About 200 hotel rooms were booked for the shoot.
📍 Santorini, Greece
The volcano scenes were filmed on Santorini, according to Variety and IndieWire. Chris Evans and Anya Taylor-Joy started most filming days by hiking up the volcano’s slopes.
The Hollywood Reporter says cars are not allowed on the volcano. Donkeys carried the gear uphill. Gavras told Netflix the climb took almost an hour every morning.

A big part of the shoot took place at Pireos 260 in Athens. This is a home of the Athens Epidaurus Festival. The festival announced that filming there was complete.
Greek City Times also lists Lavrio, a coastal town near Athens, as a filming spot. No exact place in Lavrio has been named.

The Bulgaria part of the shoot was handled by Solent Film, a company based in Sofia. Talent Vision reports that Anya Taylor-Joy shared photos from Prohodna Cave. It is also called “God’s Eyes” and sits near the village of Karlukovo.
The same outlet shared a crew photo taken inside the cave. Lifestyle.bg says the cave also appears in the new trailer.
Bulgarian outlet Lupa BG says the film was also shot in Sofia. No exact Sofia spot has been named.
