Virgin River has officially finished filming its eighth season — and the clues about when it returns to Netflix are already pointing in a very specific direction.
Production on Season 8 began on April 22, 2026 and wrapped on August 10, totaling exactly 110 days of filming as originally scheduled, according to What’s On Netflix. The news was confirmed through a wave of behind-the-scenes posts from cast and crew members marking the end of production.
Kandyse McClure, one of the series’ recurring cast members, captured the mood of the wrap with characteristic warmth — describing her feet hurting from dancing, her face hurting from smiling, and her heart feeling completely full. She called it another incredible season in the can.

Where Season 8 Was Filmed
As with previous seasons, Virgin River spent its summer production period in the breathtaking landscapes of British Columbia, using the province’s varied terrain to bring the fictional northern California town to life. The cast and crew filmed across nine distinct regions throughout BC, including regular hubs like North Vancouver and Burnaby, alongside Squamish, Chilliwack, and Langley.
The Directors Behind Season 8
Series star Martin Henderson returns to the director’s chair for the season premiere, following his successful directorial debut in Season 6.
Veteran director Martin Wood extends his record as the most prolific director in Virgin River history, bringing his total to 23 episodes across the series. Sweet Magnolias alum Norman Buckley also joins the directing roster this season. Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith remains at the creative helm.
A Halloween Episode Is Coming
Behind-the-scenes social media posts from the production have offered a few tantalizing glimpses into what Season 8 might hold. Norman Buckley’s behind-the-scenes posts appear to reveal that Halloween will play a significant role in the new season — a seasonal storyline the show has not previously explored in depth.
When Will Season 8 Premiere?
With filming now complete, the standard six to seven month post-production window places a likely release in Q1 2027. A potentially more specific clue comes from the publishing world — a new Collector’s Edition of Robyn Carr’s original Virgin River novel has been announced for March 2, 2027. Whether that date was coordinated with the season’s release or is purely coincidental remains to be confirmed, but it is the clearest timeline indicator available right now.
Virgin River made Netflix history when it was renewed for Season 8 ahead of the Season 7 premiere, cementing its status as the streamer’s longest-running scripted English-language live-action series — surpassing both Grace and Frankie and Orange Is the New Black.
