Gal Gadot didn’t just portray one of the most powerful superheroes in cinema history — she did it while quietly navigating one of the most physically demanding experiences a person can go through, and she made sure almost no one on set knew about it.
During reshoots for the 2017 film Wonder Woman, Snow White (2025) star Gadot was five months pregnant — and she made a deliberate decision to keep that information away from her colleagues. Speaking to Marie Claire at the time, she explained that her reasoning was straightforward: she didn’t want anyone treating her differently or adjusting their expectations of her because of her pregnancy. She simply wanted to show up, do the work, and be judged on the same terms as everyone else.
To manage the very real physical symptoms she was dealing with — including nausea, migraines, and hormonal fatigue — Gadot quietly developed her own on-set routine. She began arriving to set wearing sunglasses and carrying a large jug filled with water and thick pieces of ginger, a natural remedy she used to keep her nausea under control throughout the day. The concoction was unusual enough that at least one producer repeatedly noticed it and kept asking what she was drinking. Gadot brushed off the question each time, letting them assume she had simply developed some unconventional Hollywood health habit. According to IMDB, the producer genuinely had no idea what she was actually managing.
On camera, the production team found a practical solution for wider shots where Gadot’s baby bump was visible — a section of her costume was cut away and replaced with bright green fabric, which was then digitally removed in post-production. For close-up shots, the bump wasn’t visible at all, meaning the workaround was largely seamless for audiences watching the finished film.
Gadot described the experience simply as something she pushed through — using the phrase “I gutted it out” to summarize her approach. It was consistent with a broader philosophy she has spoken about regarding her career, rejecting the idea that success comes from playing the industry’s social game and insisting instead on earning her place through the quality of her work.
The result was a performance that not only launched one of DC’s most celebrated franchises but was delivered under circumstances that the vast majority of the audience watching had absolutely no knowledge of. Wonder Woman went on to become a critical and commercial success, grossing over $821 million globally and cementing Gadot as one of the most recognizable faces in modern blockbuster cinema.
