For Sarah Ramos, filming The Bear in Chicago has come with one very delicious bonus — and she’s not shy about sharing exactly where she’s been eating.
The actress, who plays Jessica, an expediter at the upscale restaurant Ever on the series, spoke with PEOPLE at FX’s The Bear Final Family Meal event in New York City on June 15, reflecting on what has made filming in the city such a memorable experience. For Ramos, the answer goes well beyond the craft services table.
“Chicago food is incredible,” she said, along with a nod to the city’s people and even the Cubs.
When it comes to her go-to food stops, Ramos has clear favorites. At the top of her list is Pequod’s deep-dish pizza, which she says she loves specifically for its signature burnt crust — and importantly, only from Pequod’s itself. She also pointed out that Chicago has a lesser-known but equally impressive thin pan-style pizza scene that doesn’t get nearly enough credit.
Beyond pizza, Ramos described going on what she called “treat-scursions” around the city in search of the best desserts she can find. One consistent highlight has been the old-fashioned doughnut at Doughnut Vault, which she now personally associates with her time filming in Chicago regardless of whether it’s technically considered a Chicago institution.
The 35-year-old actress also reflected on what she’ll miss most now that the show is coming to an end, and her answer was straightforward — the people. She described the annual arrival of the cast and crew in Chicago as having the feeling of a seasonal camp reunion, with the winter filming schedule giving it a distinctly cozy, close-knit energy.
Also speaking at the same event, lead star Jeremy Allen White opened up about the emotional experience of reading and filming the final episode of the series. He described the finale as a deeply personal conclusion for his character Carmy, framing the ending as a journey toward self-acceptance and an honest reckoning with who he truly is — something White said felt both difficult and ultimately right.
The Bear Season 5 will release all eight episodes on June 25 on both Hulu and Disney+, marking the final chapter of one of television’s most critically celebrated recent dramas.
