The World Cup 2026 is the biggest ever — 48 teams, 16 host cities, three countries. And here’s my favorite angle on it: almost every one of those cities is also a movie set you already know by heart. So I built the travel guide I personally wanted — ranked, completely subjectively, by how famous each city is on screen. Fight me in the comments.

My top tier for film fans
Los Angeles is the obvious number one — you can’t move without hitting a landmark from a movie. Dig into our LA filming locations archive and you’ll see what I mean. New York is right behind it; the city is basically a permanent backlot (here’s our NYC filming locations hub). And don’t sleep on Atlanta — thanks to Marvel and Netflix, Georgia’s capital shoots more blockbusters than almost anywhere.

Don’t forget Canada
Toronto (“Hollywood North”) and Vancouver have doubled for New York, Chicago, and half the galaxy. Our Canada filming locations and Toronto guides are a great pre-trip read.
Then & now
This trio of countries last shared the spotlight in different eras — the U.S. hosted in 1994, Mexico in 1970 and 1986. What’s new in 2026 is the scale: 48 teams and 104 matches. We’ve been tracking the soccer-on-screen crossover for a while; see our FIFA Women’s World Cup locations piece for the older relation.
