The ‘Wicked’ movie will star Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, and Jeff Goldblum

Universal Pictures has a new surprise for Wicked fans as the film adaptation is coming off the Tony-winning Broadway musical based on the 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire.

Erivo and Grande were the first actors attached to the project. Ariana Grande has shared brand-new images teasing the production of the Wicked movie through her Instagram account.

Tony award winner Stephen Daldry the director of the film officially announced production in October 2020. Grande is set to play the role of Glinda who is a talented witch and might appear superficial and focused on popularity, and good impressions.

Director Jon M. Chu also confirmed that Jonathan Bailey will join the cast as Fiyero. According to Variety Jeff Goldblum will play the Wizard and Michelle Yeoh will play Madame Morrible. Jimmy Kimmel Live, Goldblum also confirmed his role as the Wizard.

The film was originally set to be released on Dec. 22, 2021, but due to COVID-19-related production was delayed and Grande revealed that the film’s release was postponed till November 27, 2024.

Its follow-up, Wicked: For Good, arrived November 21, 2025, and debuted to an even bigger $226 million globally — the biggest opening ever for a Broadway musical adaptation. Together the two films have become a genuine box-office phenomenon and a showcase for the full cast.
