Nicolas Cage and Sofia Coppola: Family Filmmaking Coincidence in Toronto

Nicolas Cage and Sofia Coppola both surprised themselves by making movies in Toronto at the same time.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight published online Friday, the Oscar-winning actor revealed that while he was shooting the comedy film, which will be released Nov. 22, the cartoon superstar was filming his filmmaker cousin Coppola’s Priscilla. Which is currently running in Theater.

“I think it’s lovely. I think it’s wonderful. She’s so gifted, so talented,” Cage said of Coppola helming the Priscilla Presley biopic that stars Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi.

The 59-year-old actor shared what he has been up to since celebrating turning 60 in January. He says that he has not yet reached that age where he feels that he has done everything, which is why he has set some goals to achieve.

“Oh, I certainly can’t think in those terms like I’ve done it all,” he says. “I’ve always had the mantra that I’m a student. I’ve viewed my path and filmmaking as a student. I would never call myself a master.

Additionally, I always have something to learn, and always want to learn. So, 60 is coming up for sure, so my goal is to read more. I’ve been lagging in that department. I’d like to read a book a week. I want to spend more time with my daughter.”

Cage and Coppola not only had members of their own family involved in their project but also their father (and his uncle), filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, who was shooting Megalopolis during that time.

He recalled saying“It was interesting because we were both in Toronto at the same time filming and she was filming her picture and I was filming mine, and I did text her and said, ‘You know, it’s kind of incredible that your dad is over there making a movie in Atlanta at the same time you’re making a movie and I’m making a movie in Toronto. This is great. This has got to be good luck for all of us,’”.

Dream Scenario, Cage’s film based on a man named Samuel Family, whose life gets reverse-turned when strangers start seeing him in their dreams, but his film shows such a transformation that they find themselves dreaming.
