Get ready for all Lights to Fade again and Darkness to consume with Twisters 2. After filming Twister 2 in multiple locations, shooting will now begin in Midwest City, Okla.
Another Oklahoma town, Midwest City is transformed into a movie set for Twister 2 and the locals of the locations said they are very excited to see their hometown on the big screen.
“I was like, ‘Oh my gosh! They’re filming a movie!’ and I was excited,” Kayla Adams one of the locals said. “They might actually get a real tornado with this time of year,” said local business owner Lamarr Adams. The film production builds a set along Northeast 23rd and Douglas Boulevard to film the upcoming action–adventure film.
Along Douglas Boulevard and Northeast 23rd a sizable rodeo arena can be seen from the street, despite the lack of information about the movie, and although the whole film is kept under wrap a large area of the rodeo arena can be seen from the street.
“I saw the horse trailer and the horses. It looks like it’s going to have a holiday theme, a Fourth of July type of thing. I saw the red, white, and blue colors,” Lamarr Adams a local business owner said. “I already know that they’re going to be wrecking that motel. I can kind of tell with the setup,” he added.

Around the area, every home signed an agreement to keep things related to the production of the film, according to neighbors behind the movie set who spoke to KOCO. Oklahomans who are related to the production of the film will also be discreet about the filming of the film but their joy is palpable.
“We’re looking forward to the actors, the extras, the work crew coming down here and hopefully giving us business,” Lamarr Adams said.
The film Twisters 2 is set to release in the summer of 2024 however, Universal will be handling the movie’s American release and the international distribution will be handled by Warner Bros.

Update: A Twisters Sequel Is Reportedly in Development for 2026 (2026)
Updated July 2026. The Midwest City set featured in this 2023 filming report was for the original Twisters, which went on to release in July 2024. Since then, Universal and Warner Bros. have reportedly moved forward on a follow-up, with Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones both expected to reprise their roles as Tyler Owens and Kate Cooper. No studio has made an official announcement, but industry reporting points to production getting underway in 2026, mirroring the roughly two-year gap between filming and release that the first film had. Plot details remain under wraps, though expectations are for the sequel to expand on the storm-chasing tech and disaster spectacle that made the original a hit.
